- A diverse student body that is geographically dispersed across the nation
Within each university there are research teams that consist of hundreds of researchers and a principal investigator (PI). In addition to the multidisciplinary research teams and the management office, the FAA, industry supporters, a board of directors, a research advisory counsel, and university affiliated all work together to make the Center a reality.

Our mission is to respond to the interests and needs of the aviation industry. CGAR focuses on GA, which services over 5,400 communities and 145 million passengers a year. We are able to address issues in areas such as:
- Airports and air traffic management
- Propulsion and fuel systems
- Flight training
- Avionics
- Aging aircraft
- CRM, aircraft simulators
- ATC simulators
- Crashworthiness
- Advanced materials
