Weather Technology in the Cockpit – User Needs Segment
The Weather Technology in the Cockpit (WTIC) User Needs Segment will assess user needs for different phases of flight, map the different user groups, and obtain user group input in developing a user information needs statement. That statement will be analyzed with industry stakeholder support, and the statement will be revised to reflect all stakeholder concerns. The end product will be aligned as closely as possible with identified industry needs, user feedback, and other CGAR school research data. The statement will be keyed to an index tracking user comments and feedback so subsequent rulemaking, policy, or guidance research will have reliable data on which to base decisions.
The statement will assist further WTIC researchers in enabling universal operator access to consistent weather information. The results from this research collaboration should include improved forecasts and operational planning in conducting operations to avoid hazards and provide comfortable flight conditions. Ultimately, this will allow decision-makers to determine the best response to potential weather-related operational effects and manage air traffic accordingly.[2]
